Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Tracking Development Comparative research on diverging development of Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa over past 50 years. In order to create effective policy initiatives, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs commissioned a research to gain insight into the diverging development of above mentioned regions. A comparative study of Ethiopia and Thailand was made, based on macroeconomic stability, rural bias, and market liberalization. Concluded was that the governmental and institutional structure played a determining role.
Ministry of Economic Affairs
China and India as responsible stakeholders in the world economy and policy issues for the Netherlands and the European Union. Since China and India are rising economic powers, research was done to gain insight in their position in the world as responsible stakeholders in trade policies. Identifying their position is crucial for EU policies. Hence, contemporary Chinese and Indian trade politics, as well as their bilateral and multilateral trade relations were analyzed. In this way challenges were identified and recommendations were made.
UNICEF
Establishing a framework for the use of solar energy in rural Uganda, in order to make a contribution to the country’s development. This research aimed at exploring the possibilities of solar energy in Sub-Saharan Africa as a way to stimulate development. Concluded was that although there are many benefits to implementing solar energy, there are many obstacles which have to be taken into account. Furthermore a cost-benefit analysis has been made in order to show the differences in financial costs between solar energy and traditional energy.
